OTTAWA, Canada – Olivier Mrak, with support from Mark Motors Racing, competed at Lime Rock Park this past weekend, taking on Rounds 12 and 13 of the USF Juniors Presented by Continental Tire championship in the second half of a demanding back-to-back stretch that began the week prior at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Mrak carried strong pace into the Connecticut road course, running inside the top five throughout practice, before a violent crash in qualifying destroyed his Zanella Racing entry and put the entire weekend in jeopardy.
With no spare chassis on hand, the Zanella Racing crew went to work immediately, rebuilding Mrak’s car from the ground up in an all-hands-on-deck effort that carried through the night. The team’s work paid off, and Mrak rolled to the grid for Race 1, bringing the car home in ninth. He backed it up with an 11th-place finish in Race 2, salvaging valuable points from a weekend that could have ended before it started.
“What this crew did to get me back on track is something I’ll never forget,” explained Mrak. “They worked hard, they didn’t complain, they just went to work and gave me a race car when by all rights we shouldn’t have had one. Ninth and 11th don’t tell the whole story of this weekend – the real result is what this team is capable of when everything is on the line. I’m proud to be racing for people who fight that hard for me.”
Mrak leaves Lime Rock Park fourth in the championship standings, with one event weekend and three wheel-to-wheel races remaining in the 16-race USF Juniors season.
